Strokes & Prose is a faith-based platform that focuses on using the arts to create awareness on mental health issues and offering psycho-social support for the youth living with mental illness.
It is also a Mentorship platform for young, talented & budding artists, as a way of empowering them to have a decent, sustainable income. (SDG 8)
We do the mentorship through provision of art supplies to young talented artists in and out of school. We monitor them in the creation of socially conscious art. This program eventually culminates in a week of exhibition and a night of poetry and open sessions.
We do the awareness creation through sharing real life stories, with real life people on the goodness of God in their journeys with Mental Health Challenges.
We also seek to offer psycho-social support to people with lived experiences of mental health ilness, by giving them open and safe spaces to share their stories and also linking them to support groups. We also liaise with volunteer community-based workers, social workers, counselors and psychologists to take on cases that are sensitive but the patients are unable to afford these services. These efforts will eventually reduce stigma around mental illness, promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce suicide rate.
